informed pregnancy decisions

Discuss Interventions

Childbirth professionals can empower families to consider medical interventions during pregnancy and birth by having them research and write down the benefits, risks, and alternatives to common procedures.

For example, encourage a family to consider and research induction.  They should answer the following questions:

  • What are the benefits of induction?
  • What are the risks of induction?
  • What are the alternatives to induction?

Once they have the answers to these questions, then they can make an informed choice.  It is important for families to think about interventions before being faced with making decisions.
