How to make money as a Birth Professional, Part 2

Set Goals for Birth Professionals Set Goals

Having a goal to work towards each month and taking action will push you forward and increase your income.

Think about how many sales or clients you need to have each month to be profitable, and set a goal.

Work towards your goal, for example decide to host or attend a meet the doula night every month.  This will give you the opportunity to market your services.  If you are a lactation consultant decide how many hours you need to book each day to be profitable and work towards achieving your weekly goal.

If you teach classes to families, set a goal of how many classes you need to fill each week to be profitable and work towards it.

Often we expect to make more money but don’t have a goal or plan to achieve the results we need.  Writing down a goal is the first step. Next you must write down beside your goals the action steps needed to achieve them. Take action and watch your income increase.

We challenge you to contact us on Twitter @birthprofession or Facebook Page Childbirth Professionals and let us know what will be your next goal.

Increase Your Fees

If you are self-employed as a Childbirth Professional, it is important to evaluate at least once a year, if you are charging enough for the services you provide to expecting families. Money You should receive proper compensation for the valuable work that you perform.

Doulas, Childbirth Educators, Prenatal Massage Therapists, Prenatal Yoga Instructors, Midwives, Lactation Consultants, and other Childbirth Professionals often don’t charge enough for their services.  When you are self-employed as a rule always charge an additional 10-25% more, because you have to cover your expenses i.e. insurance, gas, phone service, childcare.

It is important to realize that people are willing to pay for a service they see as valuable, necessary, and reputable.  Individuals don’t negotiate the fees charged by their OB/Doctor.

Get paid what you’re worth.

Steps to Increase Fees

  • Conduct an internet search to find out what professionals charge for the same service in your area.
  • Decide on the amount you should charge.
  • Now add 10%, because you still are not charging enough.
  • Plan to raise your fees with your next client or in 30 days.
  • Update your website or printed materials with your new fees.
  • Let doubts go.  Don’t have second thoughts. Feel fabulous because you are earning your worth.
