This two day workshop provides 15 hours of instruction towards the completion of step 2 of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding as outlined by current BFHI guidelines. This workshop is also approved by The CA Board of Registered Nurses for 18 contact hours.
Objective
Learn the skills to assist, educate, and empower women to breastfeed in hospital, clinic, and community settings.
Day One

- The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI)
- Teaching and Communication Skills
10:00 to 10:15 am Break
10:15 am to 12:15 pm
- How milk gets from the breast to the baby
- Promoting breastfeeding during pregnancy
1:15 to 3:15 pm
- Birth practices and breastfeeding
- How to help a mother breastfeed
3:15 to 3:30 pm Break
3:30 to 5:30 pm
- Practices that assist breastfeeding
- Milk Supply
Day Two
8:00 am to 10:00 am
- Infants and mothers with special needs
- Breast and nipple concerns
10:00 am to 10:15 am Break
10:15 to 12:15 pm
- Ongoing support for mothers
- If the baby cannot feed at the breast
12:15 to 1:15 pm Lunch
1:15 to 2:45 pm
- Supporting the non-breastfeeding mother and baby
- Protecting breastfeeding
2:45 to 3:00 pm Break
3:00 to 4:30 pm
- How to help hospitals or birth centers become Baby-Friendly
- Business and marketing basics for Breastfeeding Friendly Educators
