Training Workshop

Birth Yoga

Approved by Childbirth Professionals International for 7 contact hours. Approved by the CA Board of Registered Nurses for 8 contact hours. Approved by the American Fitness Professionals & Associates for 7 CEC’s.

Objectives

  • Teach a prenatal yoga class in a hospital, office, studio, or home with minimal props
  • Facilitate body awareness for pregnant women
  • Incorporate traditional and nontraditional yoga techniques into birth preparation
  • Define evidence-based birthing care practices

Body Awareness Birth™ Yoga is created so women may start at any point during their pregnancy and continue participation until they give birth to their babies. A variety of gentle techniques are combined utilizing:

  • Traditional and nontraditional yoga
  • Low impact exercises
  • Stretching
  • Visualization
  • Relaxation
  • Breathing
  • Meditation
  • Vocalizing
  • Dancing

This prenatal yoga course is perfectly suited to add to hospital based health education classes.  It combines less traditional elements of yoga with gentle stretching, body awareness, breathing, and mindfulness, while adhering to the ACOG guidelines for pregnancy exercise.

Certification Requirements

For certification students should have a background or be employed in childbirth health care or be currently pursing childbirth health care studies as a doula, midwife, RN, childbirth educator, etc.

1. Attend a 1 day Body Awareness Birth Yoga workshop
2. Attend and participate in 6 hours of prenatal yoga sessions in your community (form)
3. Complete teaching 12 hours of Body Awareness Birth Yoga sessions (form)
4. Complete watching the recommended DVD’s and reading the recommended books
